Khatu Shyam Ji:

Khatu Shyam Ji Temple is located in Khatu village of Sikar district of the Indian State of Rajasthan. Khatu Shyam Ji is the "Kuladevata" (Family God) of lacs of families. He is known by the name of "Shyam Baba".

Khatu Shyam Ji Story:

In Mahabharat, Barbarik (Khatu Shyam Ji) was grandson of great warrior "Bheem". Barbarik's capability was said to be unmatched. He had decided to be in favour of weaker side in battle of Mahabharat. Krishan Ji already knew that the side which will Barbarik support, will going to win the battle without any doubt. So to avoid any devastating results, Krishan Ji asked Barbarik for his head as a "daan". Barbarik readily agreed to the daan but he showed his will to see the battle. Krishan Ji set up his head on a hilltop. He became extremely happy with the devotion of Barbarik, so he granted him a boon according to which Barbarik would be known by Krishna's own name.
 
Khatu Shyam Ji

Many years after Kali Yuga started, on one ocassion, milk started flowing spontaneously on a spot from cow's udder. Everyone in the village was amazed with this incident. Local Villagers dug that spot and head of Barbarik was revealed from that spot. Then the head was handed over to a Brahmin. He worshipped it for many days. King of Khatu, Roopsingh Chauhan had a dread in which he was inspired to build a temple and perform "Pranprathistha" of that found head. This is how Khatu Shyam Ji temple was built.

Architecture of Temple:

This temple has been built in ancient style of architecture. Walls of the temple has a depiction of mythological scenes. The entrance gate and exit gate of temple is made up of marble having ornamental floral designs. There is a prayer hall named as "Jagmohan".


Attraction of the temple:

A holy pond near the temple known as the "Shyam Kund" is a great point of attraction after the main temple. People come here to dip in this pond. It is belived that dip in this pond can cure a person from their ailments and bring them good health. Phalguna Mela Festival which held every year is another point of attraction for the devotees.

How to reach Khatu Shyam Mandir Rajasthan:

Roadways- There are also several private and government buses that run between Jaipur and Khatu. From Khatu Bus stop, you can take an auto-rickshaw to the temple.

Railways-The temple is 17 km away from the nearest railway station, Ringas Junction. You can hire cabs and jeeps from the railway station to reach the temple.

Airways- The temple is located 80 km away from the nearest airport, Jaipur International Airport. Once off the flight, you can hire a local taxi cab to reach the temple.
